As I See It - Main Page

This morning as I was watching the news reports on the icy road conditions, and listened to the testimonies of the drivers who were involved in accidents, I noticed that nearly all of these drivers had something in common. At some point they said “the road looked dry, and everything was fine, then all of a sudden……tragedy struck.”

219
What they were reporting was a condition known as “black ice”. That is, patches of ice that are invisible from a driver’s vantage point, especially at typical road speeds. In fact these conditions are much more treacherous for drivers than if the road was completely iced over. Why?

Matt 7:13

Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many are they that enter in thereby

Because, when the roads are completely iced over, the driver knows that he/she is in a dangerous situation and they take the necessary precautions. Yet in black ice conditions, the driver is deceived into thinking that everything is ok, until it’s too late. Some of the less fortunate are even killed because of this false sense of security.

As I watched all these reports, I considered how these road conditions mirrored our spiritual journeys. One of the biggest tools that the evil one has against a believer is the ability to lull them into a false sense of security, and then out of no where, just as with black ice, tragedy strikes. The result leaves the believer wounded and confused, because from their vantage point the “road looked dry”. What happened? Well in reality, we are in very treacherous conditions, but we have justified our view points (pre-conceived ideas) and have built religious mindsets (images), which blinds us to the “black ice” and lulls us into thinking everything is fine, when in fact it is not, and sadly some never recover.

It is important to understand that we as believers live in a very real world that is full of traps or black ice conditions. We all have flesh, and therefore are susceptible to the ways of the evil one. Two of the biggest avenues that lead us down these paths are pride and ego. Pride begins to tell us that “we” are right, or that “we” are better than someone else, or that “we” have the truth and everyone else is wrong. Usually at this point ego begins to kick in to pull us away from the fellowship of other believers because after all “we” don’t need that stuff anymore. In short we fall under delusion, and lose the very accountability that keeps us on the narrow path of Matt 7:13, and then….tragedy strikes and some are lost, or at the very least, wounded.

Matt 7:13

Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many are they that enter in thereby.

The sad thing is that it doesn’t have to be this way. We have the ability to overcome. We have the ability to see the black ice... however it takes effort on the part of the believer. We have to make the choice to stay girded up by the scriptures. We have to make the choice to pray, and we have to make the choice to stay accountable to the fellowship of believers through covenant relationship. It is not always easy, but it is imperative if we want to be over-comers, instead of a victim…………The choice is up to you……………….Shalom
